Dr. Aruna Rao is the Co-founder and Executive Director of Gender at Work, an international, feminist network committed to ending discrimination against women and advancing cultures of equality. Gender at Work works builds knowledge, approaches and tools to transform social norms and deep structures that hold gender inequality in place in organizations and communities, and connect change agents around the world to achieve greater collective impact. She has over 30 years of experience in pioneering new approaches to gender and institutional change. She has consulted widely with government, academic, United Nations, national and international development agencies and published extensively on gender and institutional change and women’s rights.  She has chaired the Boards of the Association for Women’s Rights in Development and CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation. Most recently she has co-developed and taught a course for UN Women on transformational leadership for gender equality and an intensive Masters course, ‘Doing Gender – Approaches and Tools for the Work’ at the University of Sussex. Among her publications are Gender at Work: New Rules for 21st Century Organizations (Routledge, 2016), Gender at Work: Organizational Change for Equality (Kumarian Press, 1999), and Gender Analysis and Development Planning (Kumarian Press, 1991). She holds a Ph.D. in Educational Administration from Columbia University, New York.
